Government: National/Federal Issues

The Deer Park Board of Education is committed to keeping parents and other community members informed of important issues and data regarding education on local, state and national/Federal levels.

National/Federal Issues & Data

The following two links illustrate the amount of money Deer Park and its neighboring districts are each owed by the Federal Government as a result of unfunded federal mandates (programs and procedures our district is required to adhere to by Federal law, yet receives insufficient funding/financial aid for). These unfunded mandates result from two separate Federal programs – NCLB, which stands for “No Child Left Behind” and IDEA, which stands for the “Individuals with Disabilities Education Act” – and pertains specifically to the services we are required to provide to our special education student population.

Legislation has been passed and all school districts are entitled to receive their appropriate share of IDEA and NCLB funding. To date, legislators have not been abiding by the very laws they have written themselves and are passing the burden on to our local school taxpayers. Imagine if WE did not follow the law!

We urge you to reach out to your elected officials and communicate your awareness and concerns regarding this. You can reference their contact information on our Legislators page.
