Rumor 1: The High School plans to release students early during the 2010-2011 school year. "They will have three periods with nothing to do".
Answer: Not true! DPHS has expanded its current School to Work/Internship Program. This is ONLY for seniors in good standing! Seniors who qualify can take courses at a local college or university, be involved in an internship co-op program at a local business or entity or they have secured a salaried position. This small population of qualified seniors could be released after 6th period and only if they qualify and what they are doing is approved.
Rumor 2: The BOE has decided to sell the Washington Building and it's real estate to build low-income housing.
Answer: Not True! The BOE and Administration have put a committee together to look at the utilization of Washington, Memorial and Lincoln buildings. They are reviewing different approaches that will keep non-student use buildings from impacting the budget, as best they can. This is a public committee and anyone is free to join.
